A GEORGE III STATUARY, BROCATELLE AND VERDE ANTICO MARBLE CHIMNEY-PIECE
The breakfront rectangular shelf above the frieze inlaid with a Grecian ribbon-fret of verde antico, centred by a husk-festooned tablet with ribbon-tied medallion of an ancient hero, flanked to each side by Grecian palmettes, the jambs with inlaid fluted pilasters capped by sun-flowered patterae, on block feet and with moulded hearth opening

Lot Essay
This chimney-piece, with its Grecian ribbon-fret inlay, palmettes and sun-flowered patterae, recalls the 'antique' manner illustrated in G. Richardson's New Collection of Chimney-pieces, 1781.
