Lot Essay

Sketches, dated 1810, of this table leg and the following pair of monopodiae, together with various pieces of antique scultpure, are kept in the muniment room at Bowood. It was proposed by the third Marquis of Lansdowne to remove these from Lansdowne House "so that they can be placed about the house and gardens at Bowood".

The antique Lansdowne Antinous and Bas-relief will be offered in Christie's sale of Fine Antiquities on 5 July 1995, lots 220-221.
