Lot Essay

The unusual representation of the heart on the outer case pierced by arrows combined with Venus could indicate that this watch was originally commissioned as a marriage gift. While the white enamel dial is clearly somewhat later in date, but purpose built for the watch, and bearing a marriage or betrothal design, it could well be possible that the watch was handed down to a second generation as a marriage gift.
