A very fine miniature representing the artist's wife cutting flowers to arrange them in a glass bowl on a small guéridon, wearing a white dress with sky blue corsage tied with a plum-coloured sash, her long curly brown hair adorned with a pearl-studded dark ribbon -- 77 mm diam., gilt-metal mount

Lot Essay

Madeleine-Isaline Fé dit Lalime (1766-1851), the eldest of the three daughters of the painter Jacob-Louis Fé dit Lalime, married the Genevan miniaturist Pierre-Louis Bouvier on 4 July 1790.
Another portrait of her, painted by Firmin Massot, is in the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva, illustrated in Elisabeth della Santa, Florilège de la famille Bouvier, Geneva, 1987, nr 42.
