Lot Essay

Captain Cook writing of Easter Island in March 1774 noted that: Their Arms are wooden Patta pattows and Clubs very much like those of New Zealand... . Few paoa are published; James Hooper owned a specimen (Phelps, 1976, pl.45, fig.394 and another in the Bernice P. Bishop Museum, Honolulu, is illustrated in Barrow, 1971, p.145, fig.255.
