Lot Essay

An old label attached to the reverse reads: A Native cloth from Samoa, made of vegetable pulp & painted by hand in vegetable colouring. This "cloth" was used for sailing canoes & for wearing apparel & for dividing houses into rooms. For Mrs Watts, Maristowe Street, Westbury, Wilts From H F Hawker Oct. 1903 .
