Engraved throughout and stencil-coloured at the publisher's. The first five pages have a stamped hole in the hole in the upper section allowing the orphan girl's face, printed on the last leaf, to show through. Green lithographed paper wrappers, the lower cover blank (grubby). Provenance: C. A. Barley... -- WELLS, Mrs. J. M. Darling Bright-eyes living nursery rhymes. Newly treated with moving pictures: Dean & Sons n.d. [ca.1875] [cover title]. 4° (222 x 174mm). 6 rhymes faced by colour-lithographed illustrations with articulated movements worked by a single lever (some repaired, but in good order). Glazed pictoral boards, advertisements on lower cover, original blue linen spine. -- With a variety of nineteenth and twentieth century shaped books, panoramas, pop-up books etc, including The Picturesque Primer, published by Griffith & Farran, successors to Newbery and Harris, West Corner of St. Paul's Churchyard, n.d. [ca.1880]. A note from Mrs. Moon, laid in, relates some parts of the book to "Sally's Sketches" Alphabetical Arrangement of Animals, published by John Harris in 1821. See lot 111 above. (23)
