Born in Dublin in 1852 and married in 1873 to Ramsay Traquair, the keeper of the National Gallery of Scotland, Phoebe Traquair was one of the most renowned enamelists of her time and possibly the best known after Alexander Fisher. Her work, often of a religious nature, was regularly featured in exhibitions and in "The Studio" magazine. She carried out many important commissions including work for St. Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh, the National Gallery of Scotland and for Sir Robert Lorimer. She may also have worked for Omar Ramsden. In 1883 she remarried, her full name becoming Phoebe Anna Traquair Reid. She died in 1936.
