Hamilton played for two senior clubs, Rangers (1880 to August 1884) and Queen's Park (September 1884 - to the late 1880's). Known as "The most celebrated right-wing forward in Scotland" during the 1880's he won a Scottish Cup Winner's Medal with Queen's Park in 1886. He also, was part of the "Spiders" F.A. Cup Runners-Up team of 1885.
