Further details
Archie Freebairn joined Bolton from Partick Thistle in 1894. Between 1894 and 1899 he was the model of consistency, missing only two games. In 1899 Freebairn was appointed Captain taking over from Di Jones. By the time the 1904 F.A. Cup Final came round, Freebairn, despite injury earlier in the season, was back in the side at 31 years of age. Although he remained with the club for a further 3 years before his retirement, he was called upon only when other players were injured. Indeed, he spent most of his final days at Burnden in the Reserves. His 136 consecutive League appearances between 1894 and 1899 remain as a club record for an outfield player. Freebairn made a total of 315 appearances for Bolton, scoring 10 goals. Bolton were defeated by Manchester City 1-0 in the 1904 final.
