Lot Essay

Probably related to one of the putti holding a coat-of-arm, seated on the balustrade of the frescoed cupola, now destroyed, of the sanctuary of the Basilica of Loreto; the composition of which is however known through a drawing in the library of Loreto, I. Chiappini di Sorio, Cristoforo Roncalli, detto il Pomarancio, in Pittori Bergameschi, Bergame, 1983, no. 99.12, illustrated. Roncalli worked on the decorations at Loreto from 1605 to 1610.
