Born in Renton, Dunbartonshire, in March 1865, McCall joined his only senior side, Renton F.C., in season 1882-83. An old-fashioned inside-left, McCall was sought after by many English clubs but could not be enticed south of the border. He won the Cup with Renton in 1885 and again in 1888 and appeared for Scotland on five occasions between 1886 and 1890. He finally left Renton F.C. in 1894 and died in July 1925.
