Provenance
The earring is attached to a visiting card for "Mr & Mrs Thomas Hope, Bridge Castle". On the reverse a hand written ink inscription reads "Earring of one of the wives of Sennacherib, King of Assyria. Found in Tomb at Nineveh by S. A. H. Layard about 1845 and given by him to Captn. Robert Innesby, Indian Navy. The earring has been continuously in the possession of Captain Innesby's daughter, Mrs H. A. Browne and granddaughter Mrs Thos. Hope"
