A Japanese ivory brushpot
19th Century
of cylindrical shape, carved in high relief with a multitude of rats clambering over baskets and one another between key-fret bands, the top rim carved with scrolls and various other attributes, the base simulating holes making the rats visible, the eyes inset with horn, incised signature to base, on a wood stand -- 5½in. (14cm.) high, (minor wear).
