Lot Essay

The presence of the estampille of Nicolas Sageot (1666-1731, maître in 1706) on the piece of Louis XVI furniture on offer can only be explained, as Salverte supposed, that his widow kept the workshop in operation after his death. Salverte records a late Louis XV table ambulante, also stamped SAGEOT JME, of oval form with floral marquetry and, similar to the table on offer, with a Greek key framing rosettes to the frieze.
