Suspended by brass chains and all the shaped lantern with gilded and painted decoration overall, ending in a pierced-brass pendant finials

Lot Essay

This lantern is executed in imitation of a 14th century Mamluk glass mosque lantern. The most recent outstanding examples of 14th century lanterns sold from the Batsheva de Rothschild Collection, Christie's London, 14 December 2000, lots 13, 17 and 18. It is interesting to note that a number of French or Italian 19th Century Mamluk-style copies were also sold, see lots 11, 12, 14 and 19.
