Lot Essay

The present example is very crisply carved and in a superb state of preservation. Compare to a seated Buddha in the British Museum, cf. W. Zwalf, A Catalogue of the Gandhara Sculpture in the British Museum, 1996, vol. II, cat. no. 31, with similar features of the left foot protruding through the drapery and hair delineated in large curls over domed ushnisha.
