The pendant is likely modeled after a coin; compare a a fourth century gold pendant with beaded rim copied after a Roman coin in the British Museum, see E. Errington et. al. (eds.), The Crossroads of Asia. Transformation in Image and Symbol in the Art of Ancient Afghanistan and Pakistan, 1992, cat. no. 141.
