Further details
Catherine Smythe, the daughter of David Smythe of Barnhills, was the second wife of Sir David Threipland, 2nd Baronet. She bore him six children, of which the youngest, Stewart, was born in May 1716, while Fingask was occupied by Government troops. Lady Threipland was a woman of strong character who, while dangerously ill after the birth, insisted on naming the boy Stewart in honour of the former Royal Family. She refused to leave Fingask, obtained an order restraining the troops from General Cadogan and secured the lease from the York Builidings Company that enabled the family to remain at Fingask. In 1753, she settled her property at Barnhills on Sir Stewart, upon the occasion of his first marriage. She died on 18th March, 1762 aged 83.
