A Victorian Scottish silver gilt dessert service comprising: two fluted circular fruit comports on domed bases chased with wrythen lobing and acanthus foliage, 9in. diameter; four shaped oval dishes en suite, each on four shell feet, one engraved with presentation inscription, 13½in. wide; six serving spoons with figure finials; and two pairs of servers en suite, by Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh, 1871/6/9, weight 155oz., in fitted oak box.

The inscription reads 'From Miss Crichton, Hillside, Cumnock, to Lord Ardwall, in Memory of his old friends Hew Hamilton Crichton W.S., 7th September 1820 to 2nd April 1906 and James Arthur Crichton, Sheriff of The Lothians and Peebles, 25th September 1825 to 29th May 1891'.
