Lot Essay

Castri records that the attribution was first made by Professor Federico Zeri. The present picture is evidently an early work by the artist, painted under the strong influence of Fra Filippo Lippi. A related composition is in the Musée de Tessé at Le Mans (Castri, loc. cit., no. 17 and fig. 140).
