Said to have come from the collection of Prince Gagarin, St. Petersburg and purchased from the dealer A.R. Krutjakoff, St. Petersburg, in 1908 for 25,000 gold roubles by Agathon Fabergé, son of Carl Fabergé, Court Jeweller to the Czar.

Lot Essay

The original by Rubens is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, datable to 1615-20.
