LAN MORTON
Alan Lauder Morton "The Wee Blue Devil" was born in Partick, Glasgow on 24th April 1893. He played football for his school team Airdrie Academy before joining Queen's Park in 1913. He joined Rangers in June 1920 and it was there that Morton's incredible haul of domestic and international honours was won. Between 1920 and 1933 he won 9 League Championship medals; two Scottish Cup Winners and was a finalist on three other occasions. He also appeared for Scotland on no less than 31 occasions (a record which stood until it was broken by another great Ranger George Young ) and for the Scottish league on 15 occasions. Coupled with many Glasgow Cup and Charity Cup medals and three Victory Internationals it is easy to see why Morton is regarded as the finest outside-left produced by Scotland.
A Ranger all his life, he became a Director in 1933 and remained in that position until just prior to his death in December 1971.
