Octafoil and on eight shaped bracket feet, the centre later engraved with a coat-of-arms within a rococo cartouche, the reverse engraved with a presentation inscription, marked on reverse - 15½in. (39cm.) diam.

The arms are those of Battell impaling Davies of Hope, Co. Montgomery
The inscription reads 'This Legacy was given by the Honble William Maynards who Dy'd the 7 March 1716/15'

Lot Essay

The Hon. William Maynard was the first son of Banaster Maynard, 3rd Baron Maynard and his wife Lady Elizabeth Grey, only daughter of Henry, 10th Earl of Kent. His will lists his two brothera and brother who each received 20 pounds in his will 'for rings or what else in remembrance'
