The chaise longue's lion-headed and Grecian-scrolled frame derives from an 1804 drawing-room chair pattern issued in George Smith's Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1808, pl. 56. The form of its bolster-scroll featured in The London Chairmakers' and Carvers' Book of Prices, 1823.
