Imperial Bushmen in Mafeking, addressed to Sudney with Cape 1d. tied by Mafeking c.d.s.; the letter gives a brief account of the journey and encounter with the enemy "...left under General Carrington for the front with the intention of relieving a garrison which was shut up at Elands River...We engaged the enemy on Sunday the 5th inst where they opened firer upon our advance guard with their guns consisting of 94 pounders, 15 pounders and pom pom batteries, our artillery returned the fire with vigour...The booming og the guns and the whistling of the bullets made things lively"; the envelope is somewhat battered but still interesting
