The canted rectangular crossbanded top above a cedar-lined frieze drawer and sliding workbasket lined in pleated silk, on boxwood-inlaid square tapering legs, joined by incurved stretchers, the drawer previously fitted, restorations to the stretcher

Lot Essay

The octagonal work-table, with taper-hermed legs tied by hollow-sided stretchers, conforms to a pattern, dated 1794 in the Estimate Sketch Book of Messrs. Gillow of London and Lancaster (L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 76).
