A 3ll. typescript and manuscript calendar, titled 'LIEUTENANT SHACKLETON'S ENGAGEMENTS.' covering the period from 25 June to 29 July 1909. 3 leaves (40.8 x 32.8cm.) typescript ruled in red on recto only of the three sheets with numerous manuscript entries and amendments in at least two hands.

A DOCUMENT RECORDING THE LIONIZATION OF SHACKLETON FOLLOWING HIS RETURN TO ENGLAND FROM THE NIMROD EXPEDITION.

Shackleton returned to London from the Nimrod expedition on 14 June 1909. This calendar shows that in the 35 days from the 25 June to 29 July he attended 62 separate engagements. On 28 June he had lunch at the Mansion House (hosts: the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of London), dined at the Geographical Club, lectured at the RGS and ended the day with supper at the Carlton with Lady Brocklehurst. A part of this document was reproduced in M. and J. Fisher's Shackleton (London: 1957, p.264).
