Château Haut-Brion--Vintage 1961
Pessac (Graves), 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Ex-Nicolas
Slightly bin-soiled labels. Levels 4 cms below base of corks
Tasting note: as always, a totally different style, differente taste, from its Médoc peers. But like them, an unmistakable depth of colour, just as the '45s had. A singed, tobacoo and tea-leaves scent, harmonious -no harsh edges- confident, elegant and superb in its own slightly idiosyncratic way. An elegant, silky structure, as opposed to the more rustic, vigorous La Mission. Never very dry, it now has a pleasing sweetness, perfectly assimilated tannins and acidity, balance and length. Beautiful. M.B. GVWBII
