A MEISSEN (MARCOLINI) YELLOW-GROUND PEAR-SHAPED EWER AND BASIN MADE FOR THE TURKISH MARKET
Circa 1790

Painted with bouquets within gilt ovolo cartouches enclosed by trailing flowers tied with gilt ribbons, the ewer of pear shape, the lower part moulded with gadroons painted alternately with flowers, the flared cylindrical neck with a collar painted with flowers and the curved spout, foliage support and scroll handle moulded with foliage enriched in pink and gilt, the high domed cover with fruit finial, the basin similarly decorated, the centre with three bouquets of flowers and the rim with a band of moulded ovolo ornament painted with sprigs of flowers and outlined in gilt, the cover with gilt-metal hinge attachment, blue crossed swords and star mark, ..4 to footrims, incised 3 to ewer and Pressnummer 12 twice and 55 to basin
the ewer 13in. (33cm.) high, the basin 14 3/8in. (36.5cm.) diam.
