The bezel engraved with the crest of a falcon rising, proper, belled and jessed, with initials T.P., all in outer corded border, plain gold hoop, circa 1620, finger size N

Provenance: Excavated at Brooks's Wharf near Queenhithe, River Thames
Cf. C. Oman, op.cit, 1974, pl.45 (f) for an early 17th Century signet ring with falcon crest of Sir Nicholas Throckmorton of Paulers Perry, Northants dated to between 1607 and 1623


Falcon crests were used by many families including Abercrombie, Brabazon, Clark, Congreve, Saumarez, Donovan, Drummond, Harding, Mowbray, Price, St. Aubyn, Shaw and Willis
