The unusual mark of an applied oval tab appears to be indistinctly struck with the initials RP and the number 18. According to S. Bury, Jewellery 1789-1910, 1991, p.459 'Phillips, Brogden and other firms making archeological jewellery adopted applied plaques for their own unofficial marks'
