Lot Essay

In the 1820s, Schinkel was interested in Gothic architecture, for example his Friedrichwerdersche Kirche in Berlin, 1823-1824. This study of a Gothic Saalbau, built entirely in brick, shows influence from England and also from the Marienburg in East Prussia and South German Gothic.
