Pen and ink heightened with colour on paper, in the centre of a hunting enclosure, Rustem stabs the div, while his soldiers look on from all around, foxes play in the fore- and background, (negligible spotting, one small tear), applied gold painted foliate borders, on an album leaf with red and blue borders painted with gold meandering vine, in gold and coloured margins, cream leaf painted with gold and polychrome arabesques and vine (slight fading and wear)
miniature 7½ x 4¾in. (19.1 x 12cm.)

A very similar miniature by the same artist and presumably from the same Shahnameh is in the British Museum (1921.10-11.01), see: Rogers, J.M.: Mughal Miniatures, London 1993, p.75, fig.47
