Lot Essay

Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1884, Ford's figure of Linos, reflecting the influence of Hamo Thornycroft and incorporating elements of the growing New Sculpture movement, was very favourably received by the critics. A lifesize version of the figure is now in the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight.
