The ivory field with delicate tendrils issuing bold serrated leaves and flowerheads around a light blue cusped concentric medallion containing a central brick-red flowerhead spray issuing open palmettes enclosing delicate floral sprays, the stylised light blue spandrels similar, in a narrow light blue angular flowerhead vine border, glued back, repaired cuts, slight staining and splitting around the metal-thread

Lot Essay

The use of metal-thread in this rug is unusual. The weaver has used finer strands in a soumac weave for the smaller palmettes while in the centre the metal used is more akin to piano wire in thickness and malleability!
