A STONEWARE VASE WITH CARVED EBONY AND HARDSTONE STOPPER
BY EMILE LENOBLE, CIRCA 1920/25

The speckled creamy white body incised with a central formalised floral band, the ebony Stopper carved with three ribs and surmounted with a simulated dark garnet finial, on stained wood stand, impressed potter's cipher, stopper with ink manuscript inventory label 3719.
4 1/2in. (11.5cm.) high, excluding stand

Lot Essay

Purchased in 1925 by Claire Petrucci as a gift for her daughter Clairette, who with her husband was a close friend of Lenoble.
The Wolfers archive entry for this piece indicates that the ebony stopper was made by Marcel Wolfers.
