Lot Essay

A rough sketch for a comparable pair of appliques, executed by Prutscher, exists in the Wiener Werkstätte archives at the Museum für angewandte Kunst in Vienna. However the design of the rectangular plaques and the putti are strongly reminiscent of the work of Hoffmann and Powolny respectively.
We are grateful to Dr. Elisabeth Schmuttermeier from the MAK for her help in researching this catalogue entry.
