Enamelled at the centre with a lozenge-shaped coat-of-arms within feathery and grassy mantling, the well with a band of four Daoist emblem cartouches reserved on diaper-pattern embellished with chrysanthemum heads, within four groups of Buddhist emblems divided by fruiting branches, inner footring chip, minute rim fritting

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Frederick with Marescoe in pretence and impaling Marescoe. Cf. D. S Howard, op.cit., p.202. This service was made for Leonora, widow of Thomas Frederick, a merchant for the East India Company, and son of the Lord Mayor of London. Cf. also Sir A.
