A FINE CASED PAIR OF 38-BORE SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS

With scratch rifled heavy browned twist octagonal sighted barrels, case-hardened patent recessed breeches each with platinum line, platinum-lined stamp and touch-hole, engraved case-hardened tangs each incorporating a back-sight, signed scroll engraved serial numbered case-hardened detented locks each with safety-catch, roller bearing on a ramp, and rainproof pan, the steels each engraved 'Joseph Manton Patent', and numbered 8832 and 8833 respectively, finely figured walnut half-stocks, chequered butts, engraved silver mounts including numbered spur trigger-guards, silver escutcheons engraved with crest and owner's name in Greek, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, blued trigger-plates, horn fore-end caps, original horn-tipped ramrods, and nearly all their original finish throughout: in lined and fitted mahogany case (lining with minor damage) with accessories including a three-way flask covered in red leather, the lid with trade label for 1820-25, flush-fitting carrying handle, and circular escutcheon engraved with the same crest and owner's name as the pistols, London proof marks, the barrels forged by Charles Lancaster, silver maker's mark EB
