Lot Essay

Caprera is a small island in the archipelago of La Maddalena, off the North Eastern Coast of Sardinia. It was the chosen home of Giuseppe Garibaldi (who is presumably the figure depicted in red in the picture), from 1856 until his death on 2 June 1882, and he is buried there with four of his children. The villa is now a museum.
