Orlando, by Touchstone, out of Vulture, was foaled in 1841 and was bred by his owner Colonel Peel. He was a very good horse winning the July Stakes and Riddlesworth Stakes at Newmarket, and was awarded the 1844 Derby when it was proven that the winner, Running Rein, was in fact a four year old. He broke down during the Ascot Gold Cup of 1846 and was retired to stud where he was a considerable success before his death in 1848. His most celebrated progeny was Teddington, winner of both the Derby and Ascot Gold Cup.
