He was sent forward with a patrol near Neuilly on the night of 10th. October, 1918 with orders to find crossings for his company over the River Selle. He found a footbridge which was heavily wired. Under heavy rifle and machine-gun fire, he cut the wire and rendered the bridge passable for his Company to cross the River without serious losses."
