Each with pierced shield-shaped back with waved toprail centred by a draped Prince-of-Wales' feathers, with downswept arms and padded seat covered in striped floral needlework, the seat-rail and square tapering legs decorated with berried-trails, minor restorations (4)

Engraved patterns for elegantly japanned chairs with antique shield back and ribbon-tied splat displaying the Prince-of-Wales's ostrich-plume badge, were first published in A. Hepplewhite and Co.'s Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1788
