Each with padded back, arms and seat covered in cream-coloured satin, the toprail with trailing acanthus centred by a palmette and with cone finial, the palmette columnar-supports headed by scrolling acanthus and palmette, the seat-rail with various flowerheads and foliage, on turned tapering legs headed by flowerheads (2)

Lot Essay

This pair of giltwood fauteuils is closely related to a suite supplied by Bellangé to Mme. du Cayla at the Château de Saint-Ouen, circa, which remains with her descendants at the Château d'Haroué (D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 52). It further relates to a suite stamped P. Bellangé, sold by Major Sir John Fitzgerald, Bt., M.C., Knight of Kerry in these Rooms, 8 December 1949, lot 107
