the oval bombé tureen raised on four scroll capped feet, with two similar applied handles, with a gadroon rim, later engraved with an initial within a foliate scroll cartouche, the conforming lid with a loop handle, the underside engraved with a scratchweight 96=7 - 38cm (15 in), 96oz.

Lot Essay

In a tradecard illustrated in Ambrose Heal's London Goldsmith's plate XXXIII, Godfrey describes herself as 'Goldsmith, Silversmith and Jeweller to His Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland' and illustrates on the bottom left a soup tureen and cover similar to the example offered here.
