A pair of chairs, apparently from the same set, were sold anonymously in these Rooms, 27 February 1986, lot 90, the property of a nobleman. The pair was painted green, traces of which remain on the present lot. The distinctive splayed arms are similar to those on a set of ten 'bamboo' chairs supplied by William Linnell in May 1767 to William Drake for Shardeloes, Bucks, illustrated H. Hayward and P. Kirkham, Linnell, London, 1980, p. 101
