Vase-shaped and on circular spreading foot cast and chased with a band of berried foliage, the partly-fluted body with two vine bracket handles and applied with an oblong plaque depicting three horses, the domed cover with foliage border and pineapple finial, marked on base, cover and finial

Lot Essay

The model for the plaque applied to the present cup was acquired by Rundell, Bridge and Rundell in the early 1820's from Lady Barberina d'Arcy (d.1854), whose family estate, Kimpton Hoo, Hertfordshire, provided the site for the Hoo Races.
