A GEORGE III SILVER CRUET FRAME
MAKER'S MARK OF WILLIAM STROUD, LONDON, 1798

Boat-shaped and on four fluted feet, with two scroll bracket handles and openwork reeded frame on four fluted pilaster supports, fitted with four cut-glass soy bottles with silver mounts and two cut-glass silver-mounted oil and vinegar bottles with reeded handle and hinged covers, the stand and bottle covers each engraved with the initial L beneath Baron's coronet, marked on stand, frame and mounts - 13½in. (34.5cm.) long

The initial is that of Amabel Hume-Campbell, The Baroness Lucas (1751-1833), the daughter of Philip, 2nd Earl of Hardwicke (b.1720-1796) and his wife, Lady Jemima Campbell (d.1779). She inherited the Barony of Lucas on the death of her mother in 1779. She married Alexander, Lord Polwarth in 1772; he was later created Baron Hume of Berwick and died without issue in 1781. She was later created Countess de Grey in 1816 with the remainder to of the Earldom to her sister Lady Grantham and her issue with the title eventually being inherited by her nephew Thomas, 3rd Lord Grantham
