The design of this mirror differs only in points of detail from that of Adam in the first Drawing Room at Derby House, Grosvenor Square, illustrated in Robert and James Adam, The Works in Architecture, 1779, vol. II, pt. I, pl. III. Derby House was designed and furnished by Robert Adam circa 1772-74 for Lord Stanley, later Earl of Derby. It was one of his most successfully planned London Houses. He succeeded in creating a superb enfilade of state rooms on the first floor despite the very cramped site
